Maren Warmington - Visual Artist - Marquetry

Introduction
Maren Warmington is a marquetry artist whose work combines precision craftsmanship with painterly detail. Marquetry—an art form that uses intricately cut wood veneers to create images—captivated her in 2024 after a decade exploring acrylics, pencil crayon, digital illustration, and photography. Introduced to the medium by a local marquetry artist, she has continued to refine her technique under his guidance. Maren’s pieces often highlight landscapes, animals, and architectural subjects, translating natural textures and light through wood. She has also experimented with making marquetry jewelry. She has completed several commissioned works and is quickly establishing her voice within this timeless craft.
What Do I Create?
When creating marquetry pieces, because the materials used are natural wood specimens, I am inspired by the natural world and landscapes. I most commonly make wall art, and sometimes I create things like sculptures or usable objects.
I am drawn to the beauty of the southern Ontario countryside, so a lot of my works consist of this theme. small barns with rolling hills and farm fields.
I am also inspired by tiny bits of driftwood I find on the shores of Lake Huron. Another one of my collections consists of this driftwood as trees, in a mountain landscape on a lake.
I also enjoy creating jewelry. My jewelry consists of some of the themes listed above, as well as small designs or small natural objects.
